Converting Lofts and Attics Cuddington
Loft conversions transform wasted roof space into functional living areas such as bedrooms, home offices or bathrooms, with the approach and scope of work determined by your existing roof structure.
This is amongst the most popular types of project we’re asked to undertake, and we would love to assist you. We manage every aspect of the work, from early preparation and scaffolding installation through to timber carpentry, roofing alterations (where needed), and complete internal finishing including floors, plasterboard, plumbing and electrics.
The main types of conversions are:
- Dormer – a boxed extension projecting from the roof plane to create full-height standing space and incorporate windows
- Hip-to-Gable – replacing a sloping hipped end with a vertical gable wall to increase usable volume, particularly suited to semi-detached and end-of-terrace properties
- Mansard – reconstructing one or both roof planes to an almost vertical pitch topped with a flat roof section to maximise internal space, typically requiring planning consent
- Velux / rooflight – retaining the current roofline and installing windows within the slope where existing headroom is sufficient
- L-shaped – pairing a principal rear dormer with an additional dormer above a rear extension outrigger, common in traditional terrace houses
Regardless of which type you choose, the work encompasses structural modifications to the roof, installation of new floor joists, fitting a staircase, insulation compliant with current building regulations, and comprehensive internal completion.
